  Good afternoon, everyone, It’s my great pleasure to be here sharing my lesson withyou.The content of my lesson is Senior English for China Book1B Unit 16 Scientists at work. I’ll be ready to begin this lesson from five parts. Analysis of the teaching material, the teaching methods, the studying methods, the teaching procedure,and Blackboard design.First, let me talk about the teaching material.

  Part 1 Teaching Material:

  This unit is about science and scientists. By studying of this unit, we’ll Enable the students to know the serious attitude towards science and develop the interest in science. At the same time ,Let the students learn how to give instructions. this lesson plays an important part in the English teaching in this unit.This is an important lesson in Book One. From this lesson, it starts asking the Ss to grasp contents of each passage. Therefore, this lesson is in the important position of the teaching material. If the Ss can learn it well, it will be helpful to make the Ss learn the rest of this unit.As we all know ,reading belongs to the input during the process of the language learning. The input has great effect on output , such as speaking and writing . According to the new standard curriculum and the syllabus (新课程标准和教学大纲), after studying the teaching material and analyzing the rule of children’s growing of mind,I think the teaching aims are the followings:

  1.Knowledge objects:

  a)The Ss can hear, read, and use the main sentence patterns

  b)The Ss can understand the content of the lesson.

  c)The Ss can use the patterns to express their thoughts in the proper situation.

  2.Ability objects:

  (1) To develop the Ss’ abilities of listening, speaking, reading and writing.

  (2) To train the Ss’ ability of working in pairs.

  (3) To Improve the student’s reading ability, especially their skimming and scanning ability.

  3.Emotion or moral objects:

  a)By completing the task,the Ss increase their interest and set up self-confidence in science;

  b)Teach the Ss what is “science”, put the moral education in the language study.

  now,let’s come to the Important points and the Difficult points.

  Well, how to achieve the teaching objects better, how to stress the important points and break through the difficult points? As is known to us all,The modern teaching demands the teacher should improve the students’ ability. A good teaching method requires that the teacher should have the leading effects. According to the analysis of the teaching material and the students’learning background ,I will use the following methods .

  Part 2 Analysis of students:

  Students of senior grade have strong interest in English study, they have a definite English learning motivation and active learning attitude. Besides, they own the ability to complete tasks by cooperating with each other. What's more, their abstract thinking ability is not fully developped, while their image thinking ability is comparatively strong. Their attention can be scattered easily.

  Part 3 Teaching Methods:

  In my opinion,the main instructional aims of learning English in the Middle School is to develop the students’ abilities of listening, speaking, reading, writing and their good sense of the English language. So in this lesson I’ll mainly use “Communicative” Approach(交际教学法), “Whole language teaching” (整体语言教学法)and “Task-based” language teaching (任务教学法). That is to say, I’ll let the Ss to get a better understanding of the key structure of the dialogue. According to the modern social communication teaching theories(现代社会交际教学理论), I adopt the TSA method(情景教学) and TBLT method (语言任务教学)in my teaching, namely Total Situational Action and Task-based Language Teaching.The former is a “scene — activity” teaching method .It establishes a real scene and the interaction between the teacher and the Ss . The latter offers the Ss an opportunity to complete the tasks in which Ss use language to achieve a specific outcome. The activity reflects real life and learners focus on meaning, they are free to use any language they want.At the same time, I’ll make use of the modern electricity teaching equipments and all kinds of teaching means, it can develop the Ss creativity in learning English.

  Part 4 Studying Methods:

  Our students are almost from the countryside. They are lack of geography knowledge and the cultural background of those foreign countries.As senior students ,they have a certain ability to read . And the beautiful places are most attractive and easily arouse students learning emotion.As for the learning methods, they are poor in cooperative learning skills.Some students are not active in the class ,and some students don’t like English.therefore, I ’ll have Ss study in a relaxed atmosphere. Ss understand the new knowledge in certain degree through the mental process of seeing, hearing, saying, observing, thinking etc. And make preparation for completing the new study task.After feeling and understanding the language points, let Ss get the knowledge actively by probe study and cooperative study. In a word,we’ll

  1.Teach the Ss how to be successful language learners.

  2.Let the Ss pass "Observation—Imitation—Practice "(观察—模仿—实践三步教学法) to study language.

  3.Teach the Ss how to master dialogues and how to communicate with others.

  Part 5 Teaching Procedure:

  Step 1 Lead-in.

  As we all know ,Benjamin Franklin is a famous politician and writer.But today, we will read a passage about him as a scientist. His serious attitude to science .Let’s see how Franklin made his famous electricity experiment by flying a kite.

  1). Group competition

  In the 18th and 19th century, scientists all over the world made many important discoveries and inventions in different fields of physics, chemistry, medicine, biology and so on. Divide the whole class into four groups to name some of them.

  2). Group work

  A match competition. Match Column B with Column A correctly.give more examples to make Ss get information.

  Purpose of my design:To get to know something about the story of famous scientists.

  To have a better understanding about the importance of experiments in science.It is really difficult for the scientists to achieve their goal , and only after tens of thousands of attempts, experiments, thinking and failure can they be successful in their research. Today, we are going to learn one example of them: Franklin’s famous kite experiment.

  Step 2 Reading

  1). Individual work

  Skimming: Read the material fast to find out the right picture about Franklin’s experiment.

  2). Individual work

  Scanning: Listen to the tape part by part to find out the topic for each one.

  Para 1-3 the description of the experiment

  Para 4 the equipment of the experiment

  Para 5-6 the steps of the experiment

  Purpose of my design:Enable students to understand the given material better using different reading skills . To present Sample A by CAI (电脑辅助教学)is much easier for the Ss to learn and grasp the meanings. CAI can provide a real situation with its sound and picture and it makes the relationships between the Ss better. In this course, Ss can understand the main contents of this dialogue and get the key points by following the example.

  Step 3 Practice

  1). Class work

  With all the equipment ready ( a handkerchief made of silk, two pieces of light wood, strings, a sharp piece of metal, a key, a silk ribbon ), one student acts as the host to conduct two students how to make a kite as the one made by Franklin.

  2). Individual work

  After that, all the students try to tell how to make such a kite in their own words with the help of the pictures on the screen.

  Step4 Further understanding

  1). Pair work

  Read through the passage to fill in the blanks in the form in pairs.

  2). Class work

  Listen to some sentences to judge whether they are true or false.

  Purpose of my design: “Task-based” teaching method is used here to develop the Ss’ ability of communication and also their ability of co-operation will be well trained. Tell the Ss we should be polite and take good care of our things. We should love our life. I think proper competition can arouse the Ss’ interest in English learning. If the Ss can finish this task well, they will benefit a lot in their spoken English. By this step, it achieved the teaching aim of understanding and talking the dialogue of this lesson.

  Step 5 Post-reading

  1). Pair work

  Franklin was doing the experiment with his little son, and he was a bit curious about what his father was doing. On the other hand, many people were watching Franklin doing the experiment. Divide the class into two groups to make a dialogue in pairs, one is between Franklin and his son ,the other Franklin and a person watching the experiment.

  2). Group work

  let Ss read the passage carefully and answer the question: Discuss the following questions in groups:

  Students make a conclusion of de process of Franklin’s experiment and retell the tips of doing the experiment。let Ss find out the keys of the exercises after their reading.

  Purpose of my design: Most Ss can take their parts in the activities, especially for the Ss who have trouble in English study. In the group activities, they can speak a little English. Without doubt, this will encourage them to speak English.In fact, it is a kind of demand of human being.Suhuomulinsiji (苏霍穆林斯基)says:“In one’s mind, there is always a kind of deeply rooted demand, that is the hope to feel oneself a finder and explorer. In Ss’ spirits, such demand is specially strong.”This step also leads to the emotion objective of this lesson, that is to have moral education in this step.

  Step4 Homework.

  Summarize the whole lesson,and arrange the homework.

  1.Do the exercises in the workbook.Check the mastering of knowledge of this lesson.

  2.Ask Ss to interview their friends asking the price and size of their clothing and make records of the information.

  Purpose of my design: I think homework is so important that the Ss should speak English as much as they can in class or after class. It is necessary for the Ss to do some exercises after class to master the knowledge they learned. This content is an extension of the previous lesson, to meet the needs of increasing communicating demand of some Ss.

  Part 6 Blackboard Design.

  Anyway, the teaching of this lesson aims to develop not only the Ss' language technical abilities, but also the various intelligence by gathering teaching methods. Purpose of my design:

  1、Make the students be free to talk about social behaviors

  2、Understand the reading passage and can talk more about teamwork.

  3、Improve the students’ reading and writing skills.

  As teachers, to make our English classrooms shine with vitality, we are laid with heavy burden, and we still have long way to go. Deal with the language points. Ask the students to pick out the useful expression from the text, give them more examples, and do some exercises to practice the language points.

  Unit 2 The Olympic Games

  (The first period)

  Good morning, everyone. I am the No.3 candidate applying for senior high school English teacher. It’s my great honor to have this opportunity to share my teaching plan with you. Today my topic is Olympics games. I’m going to talk about it from 6 aspects, namely analysis of the teaching material, analysis of students, teaching methods, learning methods, teaching procedures and blackboard design. And now I’ll explain the analysis of the teaching material first.

  Part 1: Analysis of the Teaching Material

  This lesson is the first period of Unit 2 of New Standard English for Senior Students Book Four, it is a passage about the ancient and modern Olympic Games, through the reading passage, ss can know more information about Olympic Games, especially the differences between the ancient and modern Olympic Games. The topic is very interesting and worth to think deeply,during the process, students’ reading ability and thinking ability can be improved, it is also helpful for students’ establishing their life and world value, as well as the society responsibilities.

  Based on the new curriculum standard, I set up three teaching objects as follows:

  1. Knowledge objectives

  The knowledge objectives: students master the important words, phrases and sentence structures. Such as volunteer, homeland, regular basis, etc. Practice the intonation of the general question. To master the content of the reading passage and learn how to make a interview.

  2. Ability objectives

  The ability objectives are to improve the students’ reading ability and develop students’ communicative ability.

  3. Emotional objectives

  The emotional objectives are to strengthen ss’ love for Olympic games and to improve ss’ reading interest.

  According to the analysis of teaching aims, I should help students master the important points and break through the difficult points as follows:

  1. Key points:

  Teaching important point is improving the students’ reading ability by skimming’ scanning and intensive reading and getting the students to grasp the new words and phrases.

  2. Difficult points:

  Teaching difficult point is to get the main idea and the key words of each paragraph as quickly as possible and to understand the intonation of the general question.

  Part Two: Analysis of the students

  The students in Grade 1 senior high school are gradually get used to the school life. They are excited to learn in new school and make new friends. But some students are too shy to express themselves in English. Through the study of this lesson, they can grasp the English learning methods in senior high school. Then, they can improve their confidence and interest in English study. By learning this passage we can make the students understand the differences between the ancient and modern Olympics games, and increase their understanding of human cultural awareness.

  Part Three: The Teaching Methods

  I will use the following teaching methods to lead the students learn the new lesson:

  Communicative teaching method,Audio-visual teaching method and Task-based teaching method

  In the part of Reading and Vocabulary we can train the students to make a good understanding of the passage gradually by using different learning methods, such as skimming and scanning, working and discussing in groups, free talk, retelling, etc.

  Part Four: The Learning Methods

  Students will adopt researching learning method together with cooperative learning method in this lesson. The learning Methods of this class include pair work, group work, individual work and discussion, speaking, and writing.

  Teaching Aids

  Multi-media computer, tape recorder, PPT will be needed in this lesson.

  Part Five: Teaching Procedures

  Now it comes to my most important part-teaching procedures.

  Step 1 warm up

  Play a piece of Olympics video about liuxiang, Give the following questions:

  Do you like watching Olympic games?How much do you know about it?

  And then ask students ask and answer in pairs using the questions in the table.

  This question shorten the distance between teacher and Ss. Because liuxiang is a Chinese famous player who win the first Olympic gold medal of 110 m hurdles in Olympic games. So it lead the content of the text which talks about Olympic games naturally.

  Step 2 Pre-reading

  Brainstorming: Ss watch the picture and guess what it is in the picture. Then ask the Ss to talk about Ancient Greece by brainstorming.

  What we do in this step are all helpful for students learning more about the text and preparing for the passage we will learn in the next step.

  Step 3 While-reading

  1. Skimming

  I will ask the Ss to read the text The Story of Atlanta and complete the T/F questions after the text on page 14. This will help students to practice the skimming strategies. Then Ss will read the whole passage quickly and get the main idea of each paragraph. This also can be feedback to check other students whether they grasp the general idea of the passage.

  2. Scanning

  Students scan the whole passage again , find out the similarities and differences between the ancient and modern Olympic games and finish the Activities 1 on Page 11.

  The purpose of this design is to train the scanning ability and thinking abilities of students.

  2. Careful-reading

  This part will mainly deal with the contents of the text.

  Task 1: Let the Ss read the text again and then try to guess the meaning of the new words and phrases, such as “greek, magical, regular basis…” on the blackboard. finish Activities 3 & 4 on Page 23, at the meantime, I will explain the complex words, phrases and sentences.

  Task 2: Read passage and answer the questions which is more difficult such as “. What amazes Pausanias about the Olympic games? Why does he think Athens and Beijing should feel proud?”

  The goal of this task is to let Ss get further understanding of the article and check their reading results and the deployment of the reading strategies.

  Step 4 Post-reading

  In this step I design 2 activities to help the Ss strengthen what they have read and learnt before.

  Activity1. role play

  listen to the tape and underline the simple question, pay more attention to the intonation, finally act the interview in groups.Ss can practice their spoken language through the activity.

  Activity2. Discussion in groups.

  Discuss the question :why do many countries want to hold the Olympic games while others do not? And every group put forward their ideas and reasons to the class.

  This activity focused on their speaking ability and organization of material. It also check whether the Ss grasp the main idea of the text.

  Step5: Summary

  Ss summarize what we have learnt. Use the retell skills let Ss retell the similarities and differences between ancient and modern Olympic games. Make an assessment on each group. Pick out the best group and then Emphasize the importance of group work and self-learning.

  Step 6 Homework

  Homework is not a repetition of today's lesson. Yet, it is important for the further development of students' language ability. So, I'd like students to write a composition on Olympic games by using the new words and phrases that they have learned today.

  Part Six: Design of the blackboard

  Finally, I will talk about my blackboard design. To grasp the main idea of reading, I will write main idea and the key words, phrases, on the blackboard.

  Good afternoon, everyone, It’s my great pleasure to be here sharing my lesson with you. The content of my lesson is Senior English for China Book1B Unit 16 Scientists at work. I’ll be ready to begin this lesson from five parts: analysis of the teaching material, analysis of students, the teaching methods, the studying methods, the teaching procedure, and blackboard design. First, let me talk about the teaching material.

  This unit is about festivals. By studying of this unit, we’ll enable the students to learn the main Chinese seasonal festivals and their history origin and meanings. This lesson plays an important part in the English teaching in this unit. This is an important lesson in Book One.

  As we all know, reading belongs to the input during the process of the language learning. The input has great effect on output, such as speaking and writing. According to the new standard curriculum and the syllabus, after studying the teaching material and analyzing the rule of children’s growing of mind, I think the teaching aims are the followings:

  Knowledge aims:

  a. Phrases: Be celebrated by, fall on, mark, be decorated with, tradition/traditional, serve, take part in, and get together

  B.important sentences: The Mid-Autumn Festival is celebrated by Chinese people. The Lantern Festival falls on the fifteenth day of the first lunar month. It marks the beginning of the hottest season of the year.

  Ability aim:

  a. Improving the ability of getting the general information and specific information from reading a text.

  b. Using own words to describe some important Chinese festivals.

  Emotion aim: To promote students’ qualities of patriotism by learning the main Chinese festivals and learn their history origin and their meanings.

  Teaching important points and difficult points: To get information from reading and To talk about festivals freely in English.

  Then I move to the third part analysis of teaching and learning methods. As we know, it’s the best way for the high school students to learn English mainly by tasks. So with the help of the multi-media and blackboard, I’ll use the task-based teaching approach together with the communicative teaching method, the situational teaching method, competition method and audio-visual methods. The students can learn in a more interesting and easier way. I’ll organize enough activities for the students to learn by group work, pair work, team work, competition, etc. These activities can cultivate the students’ sense of unity and cooperation. I’ll use the learner-centered method .I’ll act as a director while the students act as the real master of the class. I’ll try to use some encouraging and polite remarks such as “well done”, “you did a good job”, etc. to help every student make a progress in my class. Let the students enjoy the process of learning English. I’ll pay attention to both the formative assessment and the summative assessment. The students can get comprehensive language using skills by autonomic learning, cooperating, exploring, etc.

  In order to achieve my teaching aims successfully,I divide my teaching procedure into 6 steps:

  Step1. Greeting and reviewing.

  Greet the class as usual.

  Ask: what we can celebrate in our life? Get students to answer using the key words in warming up. e.g., Graduation, a birthday, Christmas, passing an exam, winning a scholarship, a sporting victory, the Mid-Autumn Festival, the New Year, a wedding, Halloween, the Dragon Boat Festival

  Step2. Leading-in.

  Show students many pictures of different seasons on the screen, asking: What’s your favorite season? Why? Help students answer using the words that they have already learned. Then ask: What festivals happen during your favorite seasons? Show more pictures about different festivals on the screen to help them to answer. Students can work together to answer this question.

  E.g., T: What is your favorite season? What festivals happen during your favorite season? (have a discussion) and the teacher explain the differences between Day and Festival.

  Step3.While-reading

  Activity1.Fast-reading

  Get students to read the text quickly, match the pictures with the festivals.

  Activity2. Guessing.

  Show some describing sentences on the screen to let students read and guess the names of the three festivals.

  Activity3. Careful-reading

  This time let students read the text carefully and get more detailed information to fill in the table of exercise3. Then ask some students to report their answers to the class.

  Step4. Practice

  Play the tape for the students to listen and ask them to fill in the blanks according the text.

  Step5. Post-reading.

  Let students discuss with a partner and answer the following question.

  Which festival in China is most important for children? Young people? Old people? Women and men? Then ask some students to give a report.

  Step6. Homework.

  1. Do the exercise 9 on Page 37

  2. Remember the new words in Lesson One.

  3. Use your own words to describe a festival that you are familiar with.

  Step7. Blackboard design.

  Finally, I will talk about my blackboard design. Write key words and sentence patterns on the blackboard, let the students easily understand.

  Lesson 1 Festivals

  The Mid-Autumn Festival is celebrated by Chinese people.

  The Lantern Festival falls on the fifteenth day of the first lunar month.

  It marks the beginning of the hottest season of the year.
